If you're an admirer of crowd-less trekking, the Manaslu Circuit Trek trail is the cherry on your cake.
Manaslu Circuit region is second to none in cultural richness, natural aesthetics, serene hikes, and Mountain View. The appealing Mt. Manaslu, Annapurna range, Larkya-La Pass, and cinematic landscapes en route to Manaslu Circuit trek from start to finish are heavenly.
But, unlike prominent trekking hubs such as Everest and Annapurna Base Camp, the Manaslu trek route sees very few crowds. The remoteness and physically strenuous trek of Manaslu demand experienced hikers. And still, as of 1992, its trekking trail is less explored.
Manaslu, at 8,163 meters, sits West of Annapurna, at 8,091 meters, and East of Ganesh Himal, at 7,422 meters. This ideal setup of Manaslu is enough to lure high-altitude trekkers, who love to escape the masses.
Trekkers hike to Manaslu Base Camp, at 4,800 meters, for ultimate sightseeing of towering snow-occupied mountains, glaciers, and lakes. Birendra Tal and Manaslu Glacier are trekkers' favorite hikes from the base camp.
The climax, crossing Larkya-La Pass at 5,106 meters, with Annapurna sanctuary on the backdrop, is adventurous. It's also an ideal viewpoint that lets you catch sights of Himlung Himal, Kang Guru Himal, and many mountains of Annapurna.
In winter, the Manaslu Circuit Trek route receives heavy snowfall causing glaciers and icefalls to take voluminous shapes. For trekkers, crossing this pass in winter requires fixed lines and crampons.
The Yak caravans at Samdo, routing to Tibet for trade, captivates every hiker. Also, the Manaslu Circuit region is home to exotic animals such as Blue Sheep, Thar, and Musk Deer.
The main reason to prefer Manaslu Circuit Trek over Annapurna Circuit Trek is to avoid the crowd, enjoy the unparalleled view of mountains, and experience the serene trail with flawless culture, lifestyle, and alpine terrain.
Annapurna Circuit is a heaven of Western Nepal or maybe of the Himalayas. It offers every natural offering you'd expect in trekking. But, every travel enthusiast loves to be on this route, and hence, it gets overcrowded during peak season.
Most trekkers don't know the fact that Manaslu Circuit Trek is on par with Annapurna when it comes to cinematic natural visuals. The unblemished landscapes during spring and autumn
The remoteness of Manaslu is appealing. Until a decade ago, there were no tea houses en route to Manaslu Circuit, but in the last decade, there were few tea houses with basic accommodation. It's best if you want a camping-style overnight.
The hike on the steep terrain above the deepest Budi Gandaki gorge, lush vegetation, and rushing streams never tires you of viewing.
Accommodation in Manaslu Trek is tea house based. But, tented camps for overnight sleep are also best. Inform us beforehand if you wish to camp overnight on this trek.
Not so long ago, the trekker's end route to Manaslu Circuit Trek had only one option for camping overnight. But, in recent decades, there are few tea houses established for overnight sleep. Unlike Everest and Annapurna, this route receives less crowd, even during the peak trekking season. Thus, commercially, this route is not on par with other treks.
You'll get basic accommodation on this trek, enough to relieve your fatigue. There aren't any heated beds, attached bathrooms, Wi-Fi, or cellular connection in tea houses. You'll get authentic foods rather than pizza, burgers, toast, and Spaghetti.
Thus, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is a perfect nature escapade for a week. Enjoy the 14 days in the remote landscape of Manaslu Circuit, surrounded by locals and Mother Nature.
Altitude sickness in the Manaslu circuit trek can happen anytime, but it's not to be ignored. Above 3,500 meters, trekkers start developing headaches, nausea, vomiting, and all the minor altitude sickness symptoms. Some trekkers with these symptoms can continue the hike. But for some, the situation worsens. Thus, first aid and anti-altitude sickness medicines are a must.
Our trek guides will take care of you during difficult situations. They'll also give proper medication, treatment, and support to you. If things get worse, you'll get a helicopter evacuation right away.
Manaslu Circuit Trek is challenging. The cliffs, long hours of hike, and crossing Larky La at 5,167 meters are not comfortable. Further, the uneven routes with steep ascent and descent make the trek cumbersome.
If you want to trek to Manaslu Circuit, you must be physically fit. On top, trekkers with previous high-altitude trekking experience are the best fit for this adventure.
Carrying backpacks and hiking all day long are tiring for everyone. Also, when symptoms of altitude sickness kick in, you'll find the hike almost arduous. Thus, physical fitness is a must. You can prepare for this trek a month prior. Participating in cardio exercises, hiking, and mini-marathons boosts your stamina.
March, April, and May are the best times for Manaslu trekking. September to November is also the best time for this trekking.
The clear sky, cheerful weather, and snow-filled mountains look spectacular at this time. The rhododendron forest, terrace farming, and festive times, all contribute to making this trip the best.
The rain-free days, warm temperatures, and serene trekking trails make the Manaslu Circuit trek the best in spring and autumn.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most spectacular and less-crowded Himalayan adventures. This 13-day trekking journey takes you deep into the remote northern part of the Gorkha District, close to the Tibet (China) border, offering untouched landscapes, rich Tibetan culture, and dramatic mountain scenery. Trekking around Mount Manaslu (8,163m)—the 8th highest mountain in the world—is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for true adventure seekers.
Nestled between the Budhi Gandaki River in the east and the Marshyangdi River in the west, the Manaslu region remains pristine, authentic, and culturally rich. With fewer trekkers than Everest or Annapurna, this trail is ideal for those looking for peace, wilderness, and raw Himalayan beauty.
Meaning and Significance of Mount Manaslu
The name Manaslu comes from the Sanskrit word “Manasa”, meaning intellect or soul—hence, Manaslu is known as “The Mountain of the Spirit.” Towering at 8,163 meters, Manaslu stands east of Annapurna I and is deeply revered, especially by Japanese climbers, much like Everest is revered by the British.
Although mountaineering expeditions existed earlier, the Manaslu Circuit Trek officially opened to trekkers in 1991, making it one of Nepal’s newer but most rewarding trekking routes.
Why Choose the Manaslu Circuit Trek?
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is classified as a restricted trekking area, which helps preserve its natural environment and ancient culture. Because of permit regulations, this region receives fewer visitors, ensuring a more exclusive and authentic trekking experience.

The trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola, following the Budhi Gandaki River. From here, the trail gradually ascends through traditional villages such as Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Lho Gaun, and Sama Gaon.
An acclimatization day at Sama Gaon allows trekkers to explore Birendra Lake or hike to Manaslu Base Camp. The trail then continues to Samdo and Dharamsala before crossing the dramatic Larkya La Pass (5,106m)—the highest point of the trek.
After the pass, the route descends to Bimthang, then joins the Annapurna Circuit trail at Dharapani, ending with a drive back to Kathmandu via Besisahar.
Culture and the Nubri Community
The upper Manaslu region is home to the Nubri community, the indigenous people of the area. Like the Sherpas of Everest, Nubris have their own language, traditions, and lifestyle, heavily influenced by Tibetan Buddhism.
Their ancient monasteries, prayer flags, mani walls, and daily rituals add a deep spiritual dimension to the trek, making Manaslu more than just a physical journey.
