When it comes to Everest climber's acclimatisation practice, Lobuche East, at 6,119 metres, stands best. Also, it is the ideal peak of Khumbu to revisit the technical aspects of climbing. For mountaineering aspirants, the less technical demand of this peak becomes easier for them to submit it. The place for setting tents and the plentiful water sources on low and high camps of Lobuche make the logistic management easier for climbers.
We at World Expedition Nepal run a 20 days Lobuche East peak expedition for two seasons a year. Spring and Autumn months are the pre and post-monsoon periods. Thus, during these times, the weather in the Everest region becomes stable. The super clear weather, mild temperature, and fantastic climate during these months are striking. The striking sightseeing of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and more.
As preparation for the 20 day Lobuche East expedition, you'll have a trip briefing session by our Sherpa guide and Climbing guide. During the day, you can stroll around historical sites in Kathmandu for sightseeing. You also must have the proper gear for this trekking. Thus, with consultation with our guides, you can buy all the apt trekking and climbing gears a day before flying to Lukla.
After landing at Lukla from Kathmandu, we'll begin our trek to Phakding and Namche Bazar. Hiking adjacent to the beautiful Dudh Koshi river and vivid rhododendrons on the hills make the trip mesmerising.
We'll hike to Namche Bazar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche. Throughout this expedition and at the Tengboche monastery, you'll experience the Sherpa culture together with the serene Buddhist hymns. Every climber and trekker to Lobuche East follows the legendary trails that began 50 years ago. Also, we'll pray for the mountain god at Tengboche for our safety and return successfully.
We'll be trekking on the Everest base camp route and stay overnight at the lodges, also known as tea house-based accommodation. At the Lobuche East Base Camp, we'll set up our camps, and our fantastic chefs will prepare nutritious & healthy meals for you.
Our team will set the tents and camps at 4,800 metres at Lobuche East Base Camp. Even from this altitude, the sunrise, sunset, and view of the mountains remain spectacular. We'll be acclimatising our bodies to this altitude for the next two days. In the meantime, you'll get some training on rope skills from our climbing guide. You'll be acclimatising and training together to make you better prepared for this expedition.
After adequate preparations, our team will move up to Lobuche East High Camp at 5,600 metres. High Camp of Lobuche peak sits above the moraines. The ample space around this camp allows us to relax comfortably. In the evening, the glittering sun over the mountains looks inspiring.
We'll climb Lobuche East peak with the help of fixed lines. The Sherpa team will set the fixed lines before we begin our expedition. Thus, having rope skills for climbing with fixed lines later on the summit day is crucial.
We'll start our summit day as early as 2 am. We'll start our ascent through the South East Ridge of Lobuche East. This region is technical as you have to walk over the rocks, snow, and ice climb. Sherpa guides will be alongside you to assist throughout your ascent and descent. As we move further upwards, the terrain gets steeper. The icy slopes ahead require you to walk with crampons. On the fixed-line, you'll use the ascender attached to your harness. It serves the purpose of safety and comfortable climbing.
The long eight hours of tiring climbing will take you to the Lobuche East summit. The true beauty of Himalaya giants unfolds when you reach the top of Lobuche East. From the Lobuche summit, you could see the stunning view of Makalu, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Pumori, Cho Oyu, Everest, and all the mountains of Khumbu. We’ll celebrate the successful summit back at the base camp. We’ll descend down to Namche bazar and Lukla on the following days.
Technically, Lobuche East is not a demanding climbing peak. But, it is the ideal location in Khumbu for learning mountaineering techniques and the use of apt climbing gear.
For novice climbers, this place is perfect for learning basic mountaineering techniques. Our climbing guides will train you at the base camp even if you don't have prior climbing experience. We'll have a training session regarding using a harness, crampons, ice axe, mixed walking on icy ridge and snow, etc.
It is better to have ideas of using crampons, abseiling, walking along the fixed rope, using an ice axe, etc. If you have some alpine training courses, handling these gears and making a safe walk wouldn't be an issue.
Our Lobuche East expedition is tea-housed and camping style. You'll have comfortable overnights at these places.
We'll make your food and accommodation at the best available tea house. We'll make sure that you'll get all the dietary supplements. Also, you can provide us with the details on food allergies and diet requirements for you, if any.
At Lobuche East Base Camp, our chef team will cook food for you. Our nutritious supplements to our clients have always been an inspiration to other expedition groups.
You can also carry pickles, chocolate bars, candies, and dry fruits to keep up the energy while hiking.
After summiting Lobuche East, many of our clients used to prefer the Everest base camp trek. We furthermore allow you to extend three extra days for base camp and the Kala Patthar trip. But, inform us before heading for the expedition. It doesn't come as complementary but will be affordable.
The unmatched view of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse are best from Kala Patthar. Also, after coming this far from Khumbu, a hike to Everest base camp is a must.
Our trekking and climbing guide prepares the list of required gears for Lobuche climbing. We will send you a copy of the list of contact details on WhatsApp. Make sure that you buy all the climbing gears included in the list.
