Annapurna View Trek, widely known as Annapurna Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, is a short and easily accessible trek in West Nepal. The alluring Annapurna range sits North of Pokhara, only 25 miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Thus, the places like Ghorepani, Poonhill, and Ghandruk have been trekkers' hubs for natural escapades. The serene hikes, comfortable route, and jaw-dropping mountain views make Ghorepani Poon Hill trek an ideal destination for travelers.
Ghorepani, at 2,874 metres, is a charming village that extends inside Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA). As a foreign national, trekking to Ghorepani requires an Annapurna National Park visit permit.
Crowded with the guest houses, Ghorepani is the trekkers' overnight stay spot. Overnight at Ghorepani gives the opportunity of hiking to Poon Hill in the early next morning for a magnificent sunrise.
To translate, Ghore means Horse, and Pani means water. Thus, ancient traders of Annapurna find this place the best place to water their horses. So, the village in Annapurna Sanctuary got its name Ghorepani.
Trade was a prominent source of income in this place, but the construction of roadways made tourism flourish. Today most people in Ghorepani practice new ventures in tourism and hospitality. Thus, the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek has flourished in recent years significantly.
Sandwiched between Myagdi and Kaski district, a hill station at 3,210 metres, Poon Hill sits just in front of Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri. It is why this hilltop is a focal destination for sunrise in the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek.
From Poon Hill, Annapurna South at 7,219 metres, Annapurna I at 8,091 metres, Machhapuchhre at 6,993 metres, and Dhaulagiri at 8,127 metres are best when viewed in the morning. The glittering sun pouring yellow over the calm mountains gives a heavenly vibe. Other mountains of Annapurna Sanctuary, Dhampus Peak, Hiunchuli, Annapurna III, and Dhaulagiri II, are visible from this hill station. On a clear weather day of Spring and Autumn, it looks spellbinding.
Poon Hill is a 3-day hike from the beautiful valley, Pokhara. It sits in the centre of Annapurna Conservation Area, above 3,200 metres, making it a mandatory visit for trekkers on Ghorepani Poon Hill trek.
Ghandruk, affluent with Gurung culture in the Annapurna region, is best known for mountain viewing, sunrise, and sunsets. The best part is it only sits 32 km from Pokhara, to the northwest.
Ghandruk is home to culture, tradition, attires, stone-paved trails, and stone-built houses. The Gurung attires are the charm for wanderers for the photoshoot, mostly. Those who made up to Ghandruk and beyond never missed the photo shoot, exhibiting themselves with the Gurung attires, which is alluring.
The awe-inspiring view of Annapurna at 7,219 metres, Hiunchuli at 6,411 metres, and Machhapuchhre at 6,993 metres are best in the early morning and evening from Ghandruk.
Tea houses inside Annapurna Conservation Area have improved their services in the last decade. The accommodations throughout the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek are also tea house based, but we'll make your stay at the best available tea house.
We'll start this trek from Pokhara, where you'll get a three-star hotel for accommodation. In places like Tikhe Dhunga, and Ghorepani, you'll get the best available tea house.
The tea houses have decent rooms, with attached bathrooms, in most places. If you wish to stay at tented camps overnight, World Expedition Nepal will make arrangements for the logistics.
If you are a solo trekker, the tea house you'll get will depend on how much you'll spend. The twin sharing rooms at Ghorepani Poon Hill costs around $5 on average. Eating at the tea houses you accommodate lowers the cost.
In Kathmandu, you'll also get a three-star hotel for accommodation.
Both western and ethnic meals are available in Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. On top, the meals after tiring day hikes taste even better.
The staple Nepali dish, Dal Bhat, is available in every tea house on this trek. It comprises lentil soup, cooked rice, green vegetables, salad, and pickles, a perfect combo of carbohydrates and protein.
Coffee and alcoholic beverages are also available in tea houses, but to avoid dehydration, we recommend you not to consume these much.
The breakfast menu consists of bread toasts, porridges, pies, and pancakes. On top, vegetable soup with Tibetan Bread tastes heavenly.
Spaghetti, Thukpa, Tenduk, Tibetan bread, Dumplings, and Dal Bhat are obvious menu items for lunch. Dinner also consists of a similar menu.
For health safety, tea houses prepare these foods with proper hygiene. We'll manage logistics for camping, campfires, and BBQs if you wish to be accommodated in tented camps overnight.
It is the most comfortable trek in the Annapurna region. On top, you won't get any signs of altitude sickness on the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek.
The maximum elevation we'll reach is 3,200 metres. At this altitude, the alpine vegetation remains thick and has a good amount of breathable oxygen. Thus, you'll have a serene hike throughout this trek.
Further, the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek for families is also the best package. Every age group can hike in this beautiful village for a week.
However, a certain level of fitness is a must for trekkers. Some days of the hike are around 5 hours. Thus, with proper fitness, this trek is doable.
Greenery, vivid autumn leaves, and rhododendrons in Autumn and Spring ornate Ghorepani, Poon Hill, and Ghandruk. You'll experience the magical landscape of Annapurna Sanctuary in these months.
The clear weather, stable temperature, and perfect sightseeing experience make March, April, and May ideal times for the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek. Late September to early December is also the best time for this trek.
