Mardi Himal Trek in recent years

In 1951, Mardi Himal, the 5,587 metres tall peak, was first climbed by British climber Basil Goodfellow. For a long time, people didn't know that Mardi could be a possible trekking route. It's not that Mardi lacks Annapurna aesthetics, but for different reasons, the Mardi Himal route was the least explored landscape in Annapurna Sanctuary. Due to its lesser promotion, people used to hike to Poonhill, Ghorepani, Ghandruk, and Annapurna Base Camp instead.

But, out of the blue, the craze for a short Mardi Himal trek started in 2015. Thanks to the instant promotion by trekkers and social media influence in its publicity.

Awesome Mountains Views from Mardi Himal Base Camp

This trek is scenic at every step. From Deurali at 2,100 metres, Low Camp at 2,970 metres, and the towering viewpoint of High Camp at 3,900 metres, every view is inspiring.

The Mardi Himal High Camp offers a panoramic view of Annapurna at 8,091 metres, Mt. Machhapuchhre at 6,993 metres, Mt. Dhaulagiri at 8,167 metres, Hiunchuli at 6,441 metres, and other peaks of Annapurna sanctuary.

However, the lower elevations of the trek are still accessible, and the views of the mountains are still stunning during this time. The trails are also relatively less crowded during this time, allowing you to enjoy the trekking experience more peacefully. Trekking in the winter season can be a unique and rewarding experience for those looking for a more adventurous and challenging trek.

In conclusion, the best time to do the Mardi Himal Trek depends on your personal preferences and the kind of trekking experience you're looking for. In this article, World Expedition Nepal presents a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the entrance procedures and obtain the necessary permits for a memorable Mardi Himal Trek.

Trekking Permits in Nepal:

When trekking in Nepal, it is mandatory to obtain permits to enter the designated trekking regions. For the Mardi Himal Trek, you will need two main permits: the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card.

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): The ACAP is a permit issued by the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) in order to conserve the natural and cultural heritage of the Annapurna region. The current cost of the ACAP permit is approximately USD 30 for foreign nationals. Nepali citizens are required to pay a significantly lower fee.

TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) Card: The TIMS card is designed to ensure the safety and security of trekkers by maintaining a record of individuals trekking in different regions of Nepal. The TIMS card fee for foreign trekkers is around USD 20. However, as of recent updates, the TIMS card system has been integrated with the ACAP permit system, so you may need to obtain only the ACAP permit.
